Erta Ale is an active shield volcanolocated in the Afar Region of northeastern Ethiopia. It is the most active volcano in Ethiopia. Erta Ale stands 613 metres tall, with a lava lake, one of only four in the world, at the summit. It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century. It is located in the Afar Depression, a desert area spanning the border with Eritrea.

They include Tullu Demtu, the second-highest mountain in Ethiopia (4377 meters), and Mount Batu (4307 meters). The Web River, a tributary of the Jubba River, rises in these mountains east of Goba. The Bale National Park covers 2,200 square kilometers of these mountains.

Day. 01: Arrival of Addis Ababa and Sight seeing Arrival Addis Ababa and meet the Yama Ethiopia Tours representative. Then transfer your hotel. Depending on your arrival time make sightseeing in Addis Ababa.
Day. 02: Fly to Bahirdar & Boat Trip on Lake Tana and Blue Nile Falls In the morning after breakfast make boat trip on Lake Tana to visit isolated monasteries. Day. 09: HamedEla – Dodome – Erta Ale In the morning drive to Dodome. Here we will arrange camels to transport your luggage and water, and then you will start hiking to the Erta Ale Volcanic hills (613 meters above sea level) which is 15km one way, and walk to see the volcanic eruption. The eruption is so colorful and spectacular. At night, we will camp nearby the eruption, on the crater rim above the active lava lake.
Day. 10: More excursions in Dodom and drive back to Hamadela Climbing again early in the morning to the rim to see the sun set., then drive to Hamedela.Late after noon visit camel caravan.
Day. 11: Excursion to Daloll depression drive back to Mekele After early breakfast drive to the Lake Asale, salty Lake and visit the salt workers and the merchant, then head to Dallol/ Denakil Depression, which listed as the hottest and active place on the earth surface with an average temperature of 40 – 50 degrees Celsius. Then drive back to Mekelle.
Day. 12: Drive to lalibela In the morning after breakfast drive to Lalibela and on the way visit some local market and lakeAshenge.
Day. 13:Full day excursions in Lalibela After breakfast visit Lalibela rock hewn churches, famous for its rock-hewn churches dating back 800 years. This is the most important stop on the historical route and from the air the 11 churches, carved into the rugged mountainside, present an awesome spectacle. Day 09: Gondar - Semien Mountains National Park Early morning breakfast and departure of Simien Mountains. On the way to Sankaber you can see the remarkable natural beauty of part of the Simien Mountains. Picnic lunch on the way. Drive back to Gondar and over night in hotel at Gondar.
Day 10: Gondar - Lalibella After breakfast, be transferred to the airport for your flight to Lalibella. Be met at the airport and transfer to your hotel. After lunch, visit to the first part of the rock hewn churches of Lalibella, all carved out (inside and outside) of a solid rock and are architecturally unique among the wonders of the world. Dinner and overnight in hotel at Lalibella.
Day 11: Lalibella Morning breakfast and mule ride excursion to the so-called “Asheten Mariam” monastery found on the top of a plateau near by the village. In the afternoon, visit the 2nd part of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibella. Dinner and overnight in hotel at Lalibella.
Day 12: Lalibella - Axum After breakfast, check out from your hotel and be transfer to the airport for your flight to Axum. Your flight time to reach Axum will be 45 minutes. Axum is the first Ethiopian capital where Christianity was introduced to Ethiopia during 4th century. The obelisks of Axum some of them still standing, believed to have been erected during 1st century. These monuments are carved out of a single granite stone, and have got a weight of up to 500 tones. The St. Mary Church of “Mariam Tsion” where the Ark of the Convenient of Mosses have been rested, the graves and palaces of the kings of the Axumite king “Ezana” of 4th century etc. are some of the attractions to be seen within Axum. Dinner and overnight in hotel at Axum.
Day 13: Axum - Bahir Dar After breakfast, transfer to the Airport for flight to Bahir Dar. After being 55 minutes on the air, land at Bahir Dar and transfer to hotel. Lunch in your hotel and in the afternoon a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit the ancient monasteries Ura- Kidane Mihret, Kibran-Gabriel and Entos-Iyesus. Late afternoon enjoy watching common birds like pelicans, cormorants, African darters, etc…and boats used by the local inhabitants made of papyrus reeds for transportation and for fishing. Dinner and overnight in hotel at Bahr Dar.
Day 14: Bahir Dar After breakfast, drive to the gigantic Blue Nile Falls 35 kms from Bahir Dar , locally known as TISS-ISSAT “water that smokes” after 20 minutes pleasant walk you get to the waterfalls. At the end back to Bahir Dar. Dinner and over night in hotel at Bahr Dar.

Bathe inRift Valley Lakes  Attractions The Great Rift Valley is the single largest geographical feature on the African continent, and was the only such feature visible to the first astronauts to reach the moon. The process of rifting started some 20 million years ago along a 4,000km-long fault line that stretches from the Red Sea south to Mozambique’s Zambezi Valley. The Ethiopian portion of the Rift Valley runs forms the Read Sea to Lake Turkana on the Kenyan border. In northern Ethiopia, it forms the Danakil Depression, and inaccessible and inhospitable desert that dips to an altitude of 116m below sea level, one of the lowest points on the earth’s surface. South of the Danakil Depression, due east of Addis Ababa, the Rift narrows around Awash National Park to bisect the Ethiopia as Eastern and Western Highlands. The southern part of the Ethiopian Rift Valley is lower, warmer and direr than other densely populated parts of the country. Covered in acacia woodland and studded with lakes. The six main lakes of the Ethiopian Rift formed during the last lce Age, originally as two large lakes, one of which embraced what are now Lakes Ziway, Abiata, Shala and Langano, the other Lakes Abaya and Chamo. Like a chain of pearls, the lakes cover the bottom of the Rift Valley stretching from Djibouti to Mozambique with a width of 50km. All the Lakes are full of fish like Tilapia and Nile Perch and thus attract many different bird species, making them a paradise for bird watchers. They are also altideal places for a real vacation with relaxation, swimming, boat trips, fishing, watching crocodiles and hippo’s and enjoying the serene, romantic views, especially at sunset, with only the voices of the birds or crickets as background music. Coming from Addis Abeba, you first pass the artificially-made lake where the Koka Dam provides electricity for the capital. Not long after passing this lake, the first Rift Valley Lake comes into view: Lake Zway. Here you can observe many birds such as white pelican, saddle bill, yellow bill, storks and kingfishers. Hippo’s can also be seen. Traveling further to the south there is an excellent opportunity to relax at the shores of Lake Langano. This lake with its reddish brown water is free of Bilharzia, so it is safe to swim. There are several good hotels and Lodges in a beautiful setting where you can relax on the sandy shores and where boats, pedalboats, fishing equipment and cycles can be hired. It is an ideal base to make trips to the nearby Lakes Shala and Abiata. Lake Abiata provides a stunning spectacle of untouched, UN spoilt Ethiopia. It hosts an extraordinary number of birds like wild duck, geese, cormorants, flamingos and great numbers of Great White Pelicans. These pelicans come only to Abiata to feed; they nest and sleep on islands in neighboring Lake Shala. These islands are home to the most important breeding colony of Great White Pelicans in Africa. Lake Shala which is a crater lake has many bays fringed with wild fig, acacia and euphorbia, overlooking dark waters which are the deepest in Ethiopia, 200 meters or more. It breathes an untouched, mysterious beauty. In its surroundings several sulphurous springs bubble up. There are excellent places for camping on its shores, ideal for people who seek rest and silence in unspoiled nature. There is not much wild life around the lakes but the beautiful Grant’s Gazelle and different species of monkeys can regularly be seen.
